51 DAYS LEFT TO SPEND FINAL ESSER FUNDS!

August 9, 2024

We are now on the final lap of ESSER spending.  As schools closed for the summer on June 30, the table below shows how much each state has spent, the percentage spent, and how much remains to be spent or obligated by September 30.

 SO WHAT?

Most of you assumed as the school year ended, that nearly all the ESSER funds had been spent or obligated (committed).  Therefore, those funds were not available to purchase products or services.  This table was created from the federal data in the Education Stabilization Fund Portal. Bottom line – as of June 30, there was still $28B to be spent or obligated by September 30.

Tips:

·      Look at the states in the table you are interested in to see what monies they still have available.  School districts in those states may or may not provide how much they still have.  Technically, the American Rescue Plan (ARP) required transparency of spending from all eligible entities.

·      In September schools will be busy placing students and teachers. They will be monitoring how many students actually show up, given the high rate of absenteeism in many states during the 2023-2024 school year.

ACTIONS to consider:

o   Do you have a Back-to-School campaign to encourage schools to purchase your products or services by September 30.

o   Are you increasing your attention on charter and private schools where some of those students are moving.
